While both SPDIF and AES_EBU are "compatible" protocol. They are indeed different level wise and from an impedance point of view. SPDIF is 0.5V compliant while AES-EBU is 3.3V. It means that the AES-EBU input of the SHD will expect a 3.3V signal. A simple SPDIF to AES-EBU adaptor cable wouldn't work. You will need to use an "active converter". i.e. a powered converter able to take your SPDIF 0.5V unbalanced signal and balance it to 3.3V for AES-EBU. Google SPDIF to AES_EBU for more details.
