We've been made aware that some of the latest INTEL SOUND CARD processing can conflict with the way UMIK-1 works. It appears like the OS wants to take the INTEL SMART SOUND source as exclusive.. Easiest to solve this issue is to simply disable the Intel Sound CARD for the time of processing. Here is how to do it from the "device manager" on a problematic HP laptop we tested:
