The SHD has digital and analog (RCA/XLR). All outputs are however duplicated. In other words: 

RCA out1 = XLR out1  = SPDIF out1. 

So to answer the question, yes you can indeed a mix of SPDIF and Analog out. It will work fine.

The master volume control will apply to both analog and digital.
