Linear PCM is uncompressed audio. The HDMI connectors and cables have enough bandwidth to carry a full eight channels of uncompressed audio at sample rates up to 192 kHz. The nanoAVR accepts eight channels of linear PCM uncompressed audio on its HDMI inputs and outputs eight channels of linear PCM uncompressed audio on its HDMI output.
