Single Amplification

I am building a simple two way open baffle system. Wavering between passive and miniDSP. One huge factor driving my decision is that I do not want to use a separate amp for each channel. I want one amp driving both speakers. Is this possible with miniDSP 2X4?

miniDSP Agent

Hello Jim

To get started, best to have a look at the app note here: https://www.minidsp.com/applications/digital-crossovers/digital-crossover-basics and here :https://www.minidsp.com/applications/digital-crossovers/stereo-2-way-xover
As you can see, an active 2way stereo system will require 4ch of amplification. If you want to have on amp driving both speaker (i.e. only stereo amp), then it’s a passive 2way system (i.e. crossover inside the speaker).
You can still use a miniDSP to do some basic EQ on the speaker though. It just won’t be a fully active speaker. Please check out the app note we linked above as a starting point.

Hoping this info helps
